Sina and Sokli joined the SLC staff in 2014. They attended Phnom Penh Bible School graduating in 2009 with degrees in Christian education. They married in 2010 and have two daughters, Solina, born in 2011 and Havilah, born in 2014. Sina grew up in a Christian family. His father has been a Baptist pastor for more than fifteen years. Sokli became a believer in Christ through the youth group in Kompong Thom Baptist Church. Sina and Sokli taught English at Clever Child International School in Kompong Thom from the time of their college graduation until they moved to the Shelter of Love Center. Sokli assists with gardening, food preparation, English and Bible teaching as well as house parenting tasks. Sina teaches English, preaches, does gardening and assists with woodworking projects as well as doing house parenting tasks.
Srey Nich joined the staff at SLC in 2013 after graduating from the Royal University of Phnom Penh with a degree in Psychology. She became a believer in Christ in 2007 through the youth group in Kompong Thom Baptist Church. Two older brothers were already believers in Christ. She is a special asset to the staff and the children and youth at the Center serving in many ways. In addition she teaches an evening English class at Clever Child International School, and works with the youth group at Kompong Thom Baptist Church.
Bora graduated from the Royal University of Phnom Penh in 2001 with a degree in Math and in 2006 with a degree in Computer Science. He spent one year in Canada (2006-07) with the Mennonite International Volunteer Exchange Program working with a computer company. Upon returning to Cambodia he began work at the Shelter of Love Center as the computer teacher and in 2011 he became the Coordinator for the Center. He married Sophal in 2009 and they have two sons, Nathan, born in 2010 and Micah, born in 2012. He accepted Christ in 2001, and is the assistant pastor at Kompong Thom Baptist Church. He oversees the work of the staff at SLC, files reports with the Ministry of Social Affairs, which has oversight concerning children’s homes in Cambodia and attends their called meetings. He is the Center photographer, coordinates volunteer groups, coordinates needs of the college students in Phnom Penh along with their house parents, etc.
Bunna and Pheara were a part of the initial staff at the Shelter of Love Center when it opened in 2005. Bunna earned an associate degree in accounting from Commercial Technical School in Phnom Penh in 1995. He worked as an accountant with the police department in Kompong Thom and followed this with other similar jobs until joining the SLC staff. Bunna and Pheara married in 1996 and have a daughter, Chenda, born in 1998, and a son, Bunneth, born in 2000. In addition to house parenting tasks, Bunna serves as the Center’s accountant as well as utilizing his many technical skills including mechanical, woodworking, gardening, carpentering, preaching, etc.
Pheara serves as the chief cook helping with the food marketing and food preparation along with house parenting tasks. Pheara accepted Christ at age ten after her mother became a Christian while Bunna became a believer when he was twenty having been introduced to Jesus by school friends.
Sokhiem and Chandy joined the SLC staff in 2011. Sokhiem attended Human Resource University in Phnom Penh graduating in 2009 with a degree in English education. They married in 2009 and have a son, David, born in 2010, and a daughter, Sofina, born in 2013. Sokhiem accepted Christ in 2010 through the influence of his wife. She accepted Christ in 1999 when her brother shared the Good News with her. From age 20 to age 30 Sokhiem lived in a Buddhist pagoda serving as a monk. Chandy worked in a clothing factory in Phnom Penh for two years and has developed excellent sewing skills by herself.
She assists in the food preparation, gardening and sewing projects as well as house parenting tasks. Sokhiem assists with gardening, woodworking projects, English teaching, etc.
Sue graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a degree in Human & Environmental Science in 1959. She received Master’s degrees in Human & Environmental Science and English as a Second/Foreign Language from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.
Sue was a missionary with the International Mission Board, SBC from 1993-2012. She began the Shelter of Love Center at the request of John and Anne Lewis, who have Faith Foundation. The Center opened in 2005 after 18 months of building five buildings, hiring staff and selecting children who needed a home where they would have adequate food, clothing, medical care, education and would be taught about the love of Jesus. She retired from the mission board in 2012 but continues to live in Cambodia working with the Center, a Christian school called Clever Child International School, which she started in 2010 and Kompong Thom Baptist Church. Widowed in 1989 she has one daughter, Joy, in Winston Salem, NC.
